Cnctasphr Moves From Development to a Live Social Platform

Since then, the platform has gone live and many of the features discussed at the time are now in use. This story has been updated to reflect those changes. Cnctasphr, an independently developed social platform based in San Antonio and has moved from a development project to an active service. The platform was created by Adeymius as an alternative to the fast-moving, algorithm-heavy experience common on many larger social networks. Its focus is on direct interaction, user controls and separate areas for different types of activity. Posts, messaging, Stories, groups, events and business pages each have their own place rather than being pushed into one continuous feed. And with more control of feed displays through the use of pagination.

From Concept to Active Platform

When Cnctasphr was first introduced, many of its features were still being built. Several of those features are now available to members. Users can create profiles, connect with others through story telling and publication. Users can also upload their own music for others to listen to, upload podcasts, or share a message with others through the audio player. They can also comment on posts, interact with content, send direct messages, join groups, follow events, and visit business pages.

The platform works through a standard web browser on desktop and mobile devices. It also functions as a progressive web app, which gives iPhone and Android users an app-like version of the service without requiring a traditional app-store download. Members can sign in and use the same account across supported devices. That has helped move Cnctasphr beyond its early development stage and into day-to-day use. Users can now download the app into their desktop and receive notifications just like their mobile.

A Different Approach to Activity

Cnctasphr handles activity differently from many larger social networks. Major platforms often rely heavily on recommendation systems to determine which posts appear in front of users and how often certain content is shown. Cnctasphr puts more emphasis on activity from members, personal connections and sections users choose to visit. Automated systems are still used, but they are not meant to control the entire experience.

A unique feature is the the platform’s Catch Up section that gives members a place to review recent activity and engagement tied to their accounts such as posts, comments, likes, and more from user engagement two-way follow feature. Live updates can also show new posts, messages and other activity without forcing users to refresh the page over and over. Browser push notifications are available on supported devices when members choose to turn them on. The idea is to keep users informed about activity without constantly deciding what content they should see next, no algorithm.

User Controls and Reporting

User controls have become a larger part of Cnctasphr as the platform has grown. Members can report posts, other content, and user profiles when they believe something violates platform rules or raises a safety concern. Those reports can be reviewed through administrative tools used to address abuse, unsafe content and other violations. Users can also manage their accounts and delete them directly through the platform.

Running a live social network involves more than giving people a place to post and send messages. Users also need ways to report problems, control their accounts and understand what happens when they raise a concern. Cnctasphr has continued adding those tools as more of the platform has come online. Privacy, reporting and transparency have become part of that work alongside the technical side of the service.

Built as an Independent Platform

Cnctasphr has been developed as an independent platform rather than built from a prepackaged social-network system. Much of its profile, posting, messaging, media, activity and administrative system has been custom developed for the service. That gives the platform more control over how its features work and how they can be changed. It also allows Cnctasphr to develop its own structure instead of following the layout and limits of an existing social-media package.

Building the platform independently also comes with added responsibility. Security, database performance, media storage, maintenance and server capacity become more important as more people use the service and Cnctasphr has been preparing for those demands while looking at infrastructure that could support a larger number of users. The platform is also exploring growth outside the United States, including a possible future presence in Europe with talks, strategy, and compliance that are currently in the works.

More Than the Original Plan

The Cnctasphr available today is much different from the version described when this story was first published in 2021. Features that were once listed as future plans are now working parts of the service, while other areas have continued to change as development has moved forward. Members can post content, send messages, participate in groups, view stories, follow events, interact with businesses, receive activity updates and manage their accounts. Work on the platform continues as existing features are improved and new ones are added.

Cnctasphr is still much smaller than the major social networks that dominate the industry, but matching those platforms feature for feature has never been the main goal. The focus has been on building a social platform around direct interaction, clearer user controls and a more organized approach to activity. Whether that approach attracts a larger audience will depend on how the service grows and how people choose to use it. What started as a project with some friends back in early 2000s in San Antonio, is now a working social platform with users able to sign in, connect and take part in the service.
